Time: July 31 - August 31, 2009 except for Mondays Venue: Halls 1-4 and 6-8, Guangdong Museum of Art For the past three years, the Guangdong Museum of Art has been organizing a series of exhibitions in an attempt to systemize Chinese contemporary art since 1985. The date chosen marks the appearance of a major avant-garde movement called "85 Wave" which flourished between 1985 and 1989. This august, the exhibition focuses uniquely on artists from Hunan and Hubei Provinces that have been active since 1985. The "wave" started with a great number of pioneering magazines being launched in the two provinces. The two most famous ones were without doubt Art Trend and Painter Artists, and their influence was far reaching. Often underestimated is also the fact that during the past 3 decades, a lot of art groups sprung-up spontaneously and organized a number of events, which became an indispensable component of the "Wave". |
