Wine container, Mid-Shang Dynasty This Jia is a wine container used for rituals. Two mushroom-shaped pillars stand on its flared mouth rim. Its body is supported by three conical legs. The neck is decorated with animal masks between two lines of beads. The pouched belly is clothed with curved-horn animal masks with big and bulging eyes. This majestic vessel marks the highest degree of the achievement of casting techniques of the time. |
