Snow Clearing: Landscape after Li Cheng
Quatrain on Spring's Radiance |
Wang Meng, Yuan Dynasty Wang Meng was adept at painting complex landscapes and invented for this purpose the ox hair and the released-knot texture strokes. These curly, loose and flexible strokes help him model the rippling and zigzagging mountain masses and the lush vegetation. In this painting the waterfall in the distant mountain and the mountain stream in the middle ground and foreground are used to string together the scenes of summer mountain life and to portray the poet's life as a hermit. The stream in the middle section, the winding valley and the mottled ground implying scudding clouds are master strokes in the painting. |
