Zhou Wenjing, Ming Dynasty This work depicts a misty view near a small river. Elegant bamboo and an old tree grow together beside some stones. The painter uses variable brushes and ink to sketch a clear, isolated and desolate scene in late autumn. The old tree grows to the sky; there are a few cold crows; in the distance, trees are half visible and river is clear and quiet. According to records, Zhou Wenjing had a painting of the same name winning the number one spot in an examination, in which the subject was ordered by the emperor. Zhou Wenjing lived up to his reputation. |
