Kunqu opera masterpiece: The Rising Dragon

"The Rising Dragon" is written by Li Yu in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). It is based on the story of Zhao Kuangyin (927-976 AD), the founder of the Song dynasty (960-1279 AD).

Zhao Kuangyin, while staying at Bainliang City, is search of justice, killed a bully from an influential family. On the way of fleeing to Guanxi, he rescues a kidnapped lady, Zhao Jingniang. He makes the lady his sworn sister while escorting her home to avoid the rumor. Jingniang finds that Kuangyin is truly a man of noble mind, a man of justice. She tries to express here feeling, but Kuangyin, with an ambitious mind, does not want to inclulge himself into love. After reaching Jingniang's home, the two parts.
